Where Pupils Shine

Year 5

Welcome to Year Five
Please share some of the exciting things we have been doing...

We had such an exciting afternoon today, we go to talk to lots of different people with really interesting jobs. Some of us knew exactly what we wanted to be when we grow up, some of us had no idea and some of us even changed our mind after talking to our volunteers. Thank you so much to everyone who gave up their time to discuss their careers with us, all of Year 5 enjoyed it very much!
Today we spent part of our afternoon doing our reading buddies with Year 1, we have been doing this to support Year 1 with their phonics and to develop our listening and communication skills.

PSHCE- Bullying and Cyber Bullying

In PSHCE this week, we have been looking at different types of bullying. We looked at different scenarios and acted them out, adding on at the end how we would have dealt with each situation. All children were very mature and had an excellent understanding of how to be an upstander not a bystander. Well done 5AL!

Crucial Crew Trip

We visited Formby PDC to attend the Crucial Crew workshop. We took part in sessions that were run by Merseyside Police, RNLI, Merseyside Transport Police, The Highway Safety Team and Active Sefton. We learnt lots of good tips on how to stay safe when out and about.
We have been looking at democracy in our PSHCE lessons this week. We looked at forms of democracy within our school and debated in our classes whether we should have a school uniform or not.

Dyslexia Awareness Week

This week it is Dyslexia Awareness Week. We had an assembly this morning all about dyslexia and then we carried out some more research ourselves in class. We looked at the struggles people with dyslexia face and also the great abilities they can have such as being practical, having great art skills, being fantastic storytellers and much, much more.
