Governor Information and Duties

The Governing Body of Waterloo Primary School

Welcome to the Governor Section - We are very proud to be Governors of Waterloo Primary School.

The Governors play a crucial role in the life and work of our school. Governors make decisions about many aspects of the school, including the curriculum, staffing and finance.

The Governing Body is made up of parent governors, elected by the parents of pupils at the school, staff governors including the Headteacher, Local Authority appointed Governors and Community Governors.

The Governing Body has 3 core functions:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

Our team is made up of a variety of people from different backgrounds but who all share the same passionate belief that Waterloo Primary School should be a happy and successful school where every child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential, to know their place in the world and develop the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute successfully to the modern world.

Meet the Governors

Name & Role

Background

Sarah Robinson

Chair of Governors

I have been a Governor at WPS for c10 years, having been a former pupil at the
school many years ago. I became a Governor to give something back to the
community and have loved every minute of it.
I have a passion for ensuring every child can reach their potential and is given every
opportunity to succeed and I centre my Chair’s role to ensuring this is delivered for
our pupils.
I am the link Governor for PSHE and Pupil Voice, and I visit the school regularly to
spend time with the children during their lessons and listen to children read – I love
seeing their confidence grow and love of reading increase!
You’ll often see me on Twitter with the ‘#proudchairofgovernors’ as I’m incredibly
proud of everything the school, the staff and the pupils continue to achieve.

Jenni Egerton

Vice Chair of Governors

My family moved to Crosby from London in 2018 and my daughter joined Waterloo
Primary in Year 3. She was immediately made to feel welcome and quickly made
friends. I have always found the school to be inclusive and friendly with high
expectations for the pupils and excellent pastoral care. I decided to become a
Governor as I am a teacher with 25 years in education and I felt I wanted to bring
my experience and skills to the area of governance. The role of Vice Chair is one
that I take very seriously, I will endeavour to always do my best to support the
Waterloo community and ensure that it continues to thrive and grow in the future.

Rachel Goodwin

CEO

Sarah Maciver

Acting Headteacher

Having been in education for nearly 30 years and spent over 24 of them at Waterloo Primary School & Nursery it's a pleasure and passion to sit on the Local Governing Board and support in providing the best possible provision and opportunities for the children in our care and school community.

I have acted as a governor in all of the schools in which I have worked.

Matt Parkinson

Parent Governor

I wanted to become a governor at Waterloo Primary School because, as a parent of two children currently attending the school, I have a strong personal connection and a genuine interest in its continued success. I see this as a valuable opportunity to contribute to the school community, support its leadership, and help ensure that all pupils receive a high-quality, inclusive education. I’m committed to working collaboratively to maintain the school’s positive ethos and to support the wellbeing and development of every child.

Trudi Hirsch

Co-opted Governor

Helen Shaw

Co-opted Governor

When I joined the governing body in 2017, I was in the unusual position of being a
parent, an employee and a governor at the school. Now, while my daughter has
moved on to her high school and I have carried on working as a teaching assistant
in other schools, I am proud to continue my role as a governor; Waterloo Primary
gave my daughter a wonderful primary education, it gave me an invaluable start to
my career and I am privileged to carry on being part of life at school. With my
experience of Waterloo Primary and of other schools, I feel that as well as
understanding the school well, I can now contribute outside educational
experience to my governor role.

Leanne Wynne

Parent Governor

As a new member of the Governing Body, I am excited to become more involved
with our wonderful school community. Since my daughter joined the school, I have
been impressed by all the hard work which goes into providing the supportive,
nurturing environment that Waterloo Primary School offers our children. I have
worked in primary education as a teacher for sixteen years; I am passionate about
education and always enjoy learning. My goal is to enable all children to reach their
full potential, despite any barriers they may face, enabling them to become
responsible citizens within our community.

Liz Young

Co-opted Governor

I have been very happily involved with the school for over 40 years. I worked as a
class teacher and Special Needs Coordinator. After retiring in 2015 I enjoyed
maintaining my links with the school, running a lunchtime club and offering support
to the current SENCO. It was an honour to subsequently go on the governing body.
I have always been so impressed by the school’s commitment to the well-being and
learning of the children. It continues to be an inspiring place to be part of, a real
sense of team and shared values of compassion and high expectations.

Gillian Wainwright

Staff Governor

I have been employed at Waterloo Primary School since September 2019 and have
worked in Reception for those years. I wanted to join our Board of Governors to
gain a deeper understanding of the running of the school outside of the Early Years
Foundation Stage. I am keen to support decisions that develop and strengthen our
school, giving all children the excellent learning opportunities they deserve

Nicky Leighton

Parent Governor

Sarah Wilson

Acting Deputy Head & Associate Governor
