Waterloo is a safe, calm and inclusive school where every child is known, valued and supported to succeed.
Our commitment to inclusion runs through every aspect of school life. It shapes how we teach, how we build relationships and how we help children overcome barriers. Whether a child learns within Nursery, a mainstream class or one of our specialist provision classes, they remain a valued member of the Waterloo community.
Inclusion is at the heart of our SHINE values—particularly Inclusion and Nurture—and reflects our determination to secure excellence for every pupil.
Being inclusive does not mean lowering expectations. It means understanding what each child needs and making thoughtful adaptations so that they can participate, learn and achieve.
At Waterloo, we:
Children receive support according to their needs. We do not wait for a formal diagnosis before responding to an identified barrier.
Every pupil is entitled to a broad, ambitious and meaningful education.
We work to ensure that children can participate fully in:
Sometimes children need reasonable adjustments or additional support to take part. We plan for these wherever possible and work closely with families so that barriers do not unnecessarily limit a child’s opportunities.
Successful inclusion depends upon strong relationships between school, children, families and other professionals.
Class teachers retain responsibility for the progress and wellbeing of every child in their class. They are supported by our Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, our SENCO, specialist provision team, pastoral team, family support staff and other school leaders.
When appropriate, we also work with health professionals, Sefton Council services and other specialist agencies. Families will be involved in decisions about their child and kept informed about the support being provided.
Your child’s class teacher is usually the best first point of contact. They know your child well and can discuss any emerging concerns with you.
For questions specifically relating to SEND, families may also contact Mrs Jones, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, through the school office.
If you are unsure which type of support may be most appropriate, please contact us. We will listen, help you find the right person and work alongside you.
