We organise the school day carefully so that pupils benefit from a calm, consistent routine and make the best possible use of every minute of learning time.

Nursery

Morning session: 8.45am–11.45am
Afternoon session: 12.30pm–3.30pm

Depending on their agreed sessions and bookings, children may attend for mornings, afternoons or full days. We offer a range of flexible options to meet the needs of children and families. Please visit our Nursery page for further information.

Children in Nursery learn through a careful balance of adult-led teaching, purposeful play and exploration. The day includes opportunities to develop communication and language, early literacy and mathematics, physical development, independence, creativity and an understanding of the world.

Main School: Reception to Year 6

Morning session: 8.50am–12.00pm
Lunch: 12.00pm–1.00pm
Afternoon session: 1.00pm–3.25pm

This provides a school week of 32 hours and 55 minutes.

Doors open at 8.50am and children should arrive promptly so that they are settled and ready to begin learning. The school day finishes at 3.25pm.

How learning is organised

While individual timetables vary according to pupils’ ages and needs, we follow a consistent whole-school approach.

Morning learning

Morning sessions have a strong focus on the core knowledge and skills children need to succeed across the curriculum. These generally include:

• Phonics, where applicable
• Reading
• Writing
• Mathematics
• Spelling, punctuation and grammar
• Handwriting

Our KS2 English teaching has a clear and consistent structure. Pupils receive:

• 40 minutes of reading
• 40 minutes of writing
• 10 minutes of explicit punctuation and grammar teaching

Spelling is taught explicitly at least twice each week and reinforced through reading and writing. Handwriting is taught every day so that all pupils develop fluent, legible and well-presented written work.

Mathematics is taught daily. Lessons build secure number fluency and arithmetic before pupils apply their understanding through reasoning and problem-solving. Teachers revisit important prior learning, model new concepts clearly and check pupils’ understanding throughout each lesson.

Children who are still learning to read receive daily phonics teaching through Read Write Inc. Pupils may also take part in carefully selected interventions where additional practice or support is needed.

Afternoon learning

Afternoon sessions are generally used to teach the wider curriculum, including:

• Science
• History
• Geography
• Art and design
• Design and technology
• Computing
• Physical education
• Music
• Religious education
• Personal, social, health and economic education
• Relationships and health education
• Modern foreign languages in Key Stage 2

Subjects may sometimes be taught at different times or in longer blocks where this helps pupils to learn more effectively—for example, during practical science, art, design and technology or educational visits.

Reception and specialist provision

Reception follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. Children experience a combination of direct teaching, guided learning and carefully planned continuous provision. Their timetable includes daily phonics and mathematics alongside opportunities to develop learning across all areas of the EYFS curriculum.

Pupils in our specialist provision access an ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum adapted to their individual needs. Lessons, interventions, sensory regulation and opportunities to learn alongside their mainstream peers are planned carefully. The precise structure of the day may therefore vary, while maintaining high expectations for every child.

Assemblies, breaktimes, enrichment activities and opportunities for personal development are also woven throughout the week. Our aim is to ensure that every school day is purposeful, predictable and rich in opportunities to learn.
