At Waterloo, we expect pupils to take pride in their appearance and wear our school uniform each day.

Our uniform helps create a strong sense of belonging to the Waterloo community. It is designed to be smart, practical, safe and affordable. Most importantly, it ensures that children arrive dressed and ready to learn.

Our school uniform

Children may wear any appropriate combination of the following:

• plain white polo shirt, shirt or blouse;
• red sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan;
• plain grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore dress;
• red-and-white gingham dress during warmer weather;
• plain grey socks, or grey tights; and
• plain black, low-heeled, closed-toe school shoes.

Children should bring a suitable coat for the weather.

Our uniform is not divided into separate requirements for girls and boys. Families may choose whichever of the permitted items their child feels most comfortable wearing.

School logos are optional

Uniform carrying the Waterloo logo is available, but no branded item is compulsory.

Plain red sweatshirts and cardigans, white tops and grey trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafores may be purchased from any supermarket, high-street shop or online retailer.

Optional Waterloo logo items are available from:

• Monkhouse Schoolwear, 80a Coronation Rd, Crosby, L23 5RH; and
• Paul’s Place, 272 Stanley Rd, Bootle, L20 3ER.

PE kit

Children need:

• a plain red polo shirt or T-shirt;
• plain navy shorts, skort or sports leggings;
• plain navy jogging bottoms and a navy sweatshirt or tracksuit top for outdoor PE in colder weather; and
• black pumps or black trainers (without prominent colouring)

Football kits, fashion sportswear and clothing with large logos or slogans are not part of our PE kit. The Waterloo logo is optional on all PE clothing.

For swimming lessons, families will receive separate information about the required swimwear and equipment.

Jewellery and appearance

For health and safety reasons, jewellery should be limited to:

• one pair of small, plain stud earrings; and/or
• a simple analogue or digital watch.

Smartwatches (those capable of making calls, sending messages, taking photographs or making recordings) must not be worn in school.

Jewellery must be removed for PE, swimming and other activities where it may present a risk. Children must be able to remove their own earrings.

Make-up, false eyelashes, nail varnish, false or acrylic nails and temporary tattoos are not appropriate for school; parents will be asked to attend school if this is the case. We will consider exceptions relating to cultural, religious, medical or other individual needs.

Hair should be secured away from the face for safety reasons. Cultural, religious and protective hairstyles are welcome.

Naming belongings and lost property

Please clearly label every item of clothing, footwear, PE kit and outerwear with your child’s name. Labels should be checked regularly because names can fade or become difficult to read.

Named items will be returned wherever possible. Unnamed lost property will be made available for families to reclaim. After reasonable notice, suitable unclaimed uniform may be washed and added to our pre-loved supply.

Pre-loved uniform

Good-quality pre-loved uniform is available throughout the year from the the School Office - you can also contact Mrs. Evison confidentially if you would prefer.

All families are welcome to take the items they need. A small voluntary donation to School Fund may be invited, but no donation is required.

We also welcome donations of clean, good-quality uniform that children have outgrown.

Help with uniform

No child should be disadvantaged because their family is experiencing financial difficulty.

If you need help obtaining uniform or PE kit, please contact the School Office or speak to Mrs. Evison. All requests will be handled sensitively and confidentially.

We can provide pre-loved items, lend spare clothing or agree a reasonable period in which to obtain anything that is missing.

Individual needs and reasonable adjustments

We recognise that some pupils may require changes to the uniform expectations because of disability, medical or sensory needs, religion or belief, culture or another individual circumstance.

Please contact the School Office or SENDCO so that an appropriate reasonable adjustment can be discussed and agreed.
