  • School Performance

At Waterloo, we have high expectations for every pupil. We use assessment carefully to understand what children know, identify where further support or challenge is needed and ensure that every child is helped to make progress from their individual starting point.

Published attainment data is important, but it is only one part of understanding the work of our school. We also consider pupils’ progress, personal development, attendance, engagement with learning and readiness for the next stage of their education.

    Understanding Our Results

Our whole-cohort results include all eligible pupils, including children attending our specialist provision.

Some pupils within our specialist provision follow highly personalised curricula and may be working below the standard of the statutory Key Stage 2 assessments. To provide clear and transparent information, we show two sets of school figures:

    • Whole cohort: the statutory result including all eligible Year 6 pupils.

    • Mainstream only: an additional school calculation in which pupils attending our specialist provision are considered separately.

The mainstream-only figures provide additional context and do not replace our statutory whole-cohort results. Every child is an equally valued member of Waterloo, and we remain ambitious for the achievement, progress and personal development of all pupils.

National figures include all eligible pupils nationally. They are provided for context but are not a direct like-for-like comparison with Waterloo’s mainstream-only calculation.

EXS means pupils working at the expected standard.
GDS means pupils working at greater depth or achieving the higher standard.

Progress and Achievement for Every Pupil

We recognise that statutory assessments do not capture every aspect of a child’s achievement.

For pupils following personalised or specialist pathways, we assess progress against appropriate starting points, curriculum objectives and outcomes identified within their Education, Health and Care Plans. This may include progress in communication, cognition and learning, independence, emotional regulation, social development and preparation for the next stage of education.

Across the school, teachers use regular assessment and feedback to identify gaps, adapt teaching and provide timely intervention. Leaders review outcomes carefully so that resources and support can be directed where they will have the greatest impact.

Our aim is to remove barriers to learning and enable every child to experience success, make meaningful progress and fulfil their potential.
